Summer is coming to an end

Chocolate Cupcake with Cappuccino Frosting and Fleur de Sel
I start school this week which means my summer is over. Its been fun, boring, exciting, and dull i did a lot more than i thought, but a lot less than i hoped. It went by so fast i can't believe its gone already. I havent been baking very much at home this summer since i've been working a few days a week at a bakery near my house. Its a good job, but nothing like baking at home. Well the good thing about summer being over is that fall is just around the corner! I love fall it might be my favorite season. There is nothing like the brisk fall air swirling the fallen leaves at your feet aaaahhh its just the best. It also puts me in the mood to make lots and lots of warm foods. Now i dont mean temperature wise but spice warmth- cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, clove, ginger, pumpkin, molasses, apples, everything really i just love it. A lot of my best recipes are from fall so be prepared im coming back full swing as soon as the first fall day hits :D

Candy Hearts and Sappy Valentine Cards are Here

There are now two weeks until Valentine's Day. For some, this is a romantic day full of chocolate, roses, fancy dinner reservations, and heart shaped diamonds. For others, it is a day to wear your sweats, watch tragic, romantic comedies while crying into a pint of Haagen Dazs ice cream hating your life. Then there are the people that shrug it off and dismiss it as a frivolous Hallmark Holiday invented by greeting card companies and flower shops to get people to buy things. I am somewhat in the middle of all these groups. I think that it is an okay holiday when it comes to cards, which I despise, and flowers, which die in two days, but when it comes to the chocolate and desserts, I am all for Valentines Day. I love the idea of getting a box of chocolates or eating a cupcake full of heart sprinkles, but my favorite might be chocolate covered strawberries, I absolutely adore them. So, if you are a part of the dessert movement for Valentines Day but don't want to make anything yourself, I am now at your service. I will be adding strawberry, raspberry, candy hearts, chocolate and many more V day desserts in the next few weeks, and any special requests you may have I will be glad to accommodate. In my opinion, there is nothing better than sweets from your special someone on Valentines Day. It automatically gives you permision to be bad and indulge on something special because they gave it to you, and after all you do have to be polite by eating it. Right?

It's 2009! Okay, So the Exclamation Point Probably Isn't Necessary

Vanilla Bean Macaroons

Okay, so it is 2009. I really don't see the new year as exciting, I don't go to parties, set off fireworks, or watch the ball "drop," which by the way really annoys me, if they say drop they should drop it not just make it slide down a big pole, how not exciting is that, nothing even breaks! But I digress. I have been baking like crazy the past month, and even in some extreme cases cooking, not exactly my forte, but everything was pretty good. I made an amazing red velvet cheesecake for Christmas that almost looked too good to eat, well almost. I went on a baking hiatus for a while, but then after Christmas I went on some kind of crazy ice cream and macaroon streak, which is evident on my Flickr page, that is now loaded with new pictures. I guess I just can't give up baking for long; sorry to all of you poor recipe testers in my art class out there but it looks like you will be getting a lot of new sweets this month. But, back to the subject of the new year, I would like to tackle the tradition of new year's resolutions. I think a lot of people use them to make up for all the food they ate over the holiday season with crazy diets they follow for about a month. I just don't see the point of it all, but for fun of it I have come up with a few of my own resolutions:

1. Make a lot of desserts (I just wanted a goal I knew I could accomplish)
2. Make molded chocolates (I know boring, but it is a goal)
3. Master spun sugar (insert evil laugh here)
4. Share desserts with as many people as I possibly can (until you are all in a sugar coma)
5. Make atleast 5 new desserts each month (that's not so much a goal but a limit:)
6. Get through school (hopefully with my sanity still intact)
7. Be less cynical (unlike everything else I have written)
8. Resist the (pathetic) temptation to make my own birthday cake, unless I can get other people to eat it with me
9. Get a life (Who am I kidding, but fingers crossed I have a whole year)
10. Find better goals for next year
